Is it Safe to Travel Alone as a Black Woman? (A Guide for Solo Retreat-Goers)

For most people, planning a trip involves questions like, "What should I pack?" or "What's the weather?"
But for a Black woman, especially one traveling solo, the first and most important question is: "Is it safe?"
This question is not an abstract fear. It's a real, valid, and necessary part of every travel plan we make. We have to consider not just our physical safety, but our emotional and psychological safety as well. Will I be welcome? Will I be stared at? Will I be respected?
As a Black woman who travels extensively and hosts retreats worldwide, I want to offer an honest guide for traveling solo and explain why a curated retreat is one of the safest, most empowering ways to do it.

A Solo Traveler's Safety Checklist
If you're planning any solo travel, a little preparation goes a long way.
Research Your Destination: Look beyond the tourist guides. Read blogs and watch vlogs from other Black women who have been there. They will give you the real-world insight you need.
Share Your Plans: Always have a "safety person" back home. Share your flight details, lodging information, and a copy of your passport with them.
Secure Your Lodging: Read reviews meticulously. Is it in a well-lit, safe area? Does it have a 24-hour front desk or secure access?
Trust Your Gut: If a situation or person feels "off," it is. Remove yourself immediately. Your intuition is your best security system.
Why a Retreat is the "Solo-Friendly" Choice
The checklist above can feel exhausting. If you're looking for a solo trip without the logistical and emotional labor of constant self-protection, a retreat is the perfect solution.
It's the ideal bridge for the woman who wants to travel alone but doesn't want to be alone.
Built-in Sisterhood: You may arrive solo, but you are never truly alone (unless you want to be!). You are instantly, warmly, welcomed into a community of like-minded women. Many of our attendees arrive solo and leave with lifelong friends.
All-in-One Safety: The transportation, luxury lodging, and healthy food are all researched, vetted, and managed by us. There is no guesswork. You don't have to navigate a new city in the dark looking for dinner.
A "Soft Landing": We coordinate your airport transportation and ensure you are greeted and cared for from the moment you land. All you have to do is show up and be.

Our Commitment to Your Safety at RaiStone
When I host a retreat, your physical and emotional safety is my non-negotiable priority. It's the foundation upon which all healing is built.
Private, Vetted Venues: We don't use standard hotels. We host our retreats in private, luxury villas and exclusive properties that are secured just for our group.
Experienced Hosts: As your guides, we are on-site with you 24/7. We manage all the details, so your only job is to rest and receive.
Inclusive Space: Our retreats are, first and foremost, safe, inclusive spaces where every woman—especially Black women and women of color—feels seen, respected, and protected.
Arrive Solo, Leave with a Sisterhood
Don't let the valid fear of "is it safe?" stop you from having the transformative travel experience you deserve. A retreat is the perfect, protected container to explore the world and, more importantly, to explore yourself.
It's an invitation to arrive solo and leave with a sisterhood.
